Google Email Unable to Meet Security Needs of LA
Google and CSC signed contracts with the City of Los Angeles to implement a new email system back in July 2009. Now, over two years later, the email is still not implemented for all city employees. The LA Times has been all over this story and recently published Councilman Dennis Zine’s comments that Google and its contractors have “been unable to meet the security requirements of the city and LAPD for all data and information.” Two Years? I can understand that security in the cloud is an ongoing dicussion and makes some people uncomfortable. However, that’s not really the point. The point is TWO YEARS. It’s remarkable how big companies (like the City of LA, which is a REALLY big company) let projects slide for so long. Small companies implement so much better, because there is always a greater sense of urgency.
